HIGH RISE MEETS ITS TRADITIONAL ROOTS
Nikunjika is a project we created for our wonderful clients who wanted to recapture the feeling of their home in their village wada. Turning a high-rise apartment in Pune into this traditional, down-to-earth space was a special experience. This project reflects why we love what we do and reminds us of the importance of every detail in creating unique spaces.
The Entrance
The moment you take a look at the safety door, it makes you realise that there is some uniqueness in the project. The solid Sagwaan door, used as a safety door, and its perfectly crafted elements by our skilled craftsmen make us wonder if it’s a portal to a wada space. The thing about a safety door in India is there should be a vision panel to see who’s standing in front of our door, which was fabricated and covered by the terracotta jali screen, making the space safe and achieving the wada narrative without compromising on the design.
The shoe rack has ample storage for the family to organize their daily footwear as well as special occasion shoes. It also includes a small cushioned seat, allowing them to sit comfortably as they prepare for their daily adventures.
Introducing the Foyer
Every household should have an entrance console where they can store the go-to essentials. This space was specifically designed to have storage and showcase the various props from their old wada home. The shelf is illuminated with profile LED, where once you enter the foyer, you get a complete sense that the design is carried through from the door to this point. Now your eyes get settled on this space, realizing that this is something not every modern apartment has.
Every household should feature an entry console specifically designed to provide both storage and a welcoming atmosphere. This thoughtfully crafted space allows residents to conveniently store essential items, making it easier to grab what they need as they enter or leave the home.
The console is not just functional; it also serves as a showcase for various decorative items and cherished memories from their old wada home. The shelves are enhanced with elegant profile LED lighting, which casts a warm glow and creates an inviting ambiance. As soon as you step into the foyer, the illumination draws your attention and emphasizes the seamless design that extends from the front door into this thoughtfully curated area.
Unlike many modern apartments, this entry console offers a unique blend of style and practicality. It is constructed from durable laminate and plywood, ensuring it withstands daily use while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. The surfaces are elegantly finished with sandwiched glass and intricately woven rattan, adding texture and depth to the design.
The standout feature of this space is the brass handles, which serve not only as functional elements but also as key design components that unify the overall look. Their warm, metallic finish adds a touch of sophistication and charm, completing the entry console’s inviting and stylish appearance. This combination of practical storage and artistic flair makes the entry console a distinctive and valuable feature in any home.
